St. Johnsbury - Ellen Burt, St. Johnsbury’s newest Select Board member, promises to be a strong aid to the community and the current Select Board members.
Burt spent decades managing municipal utilities, spearheading one of the largest electric departments in Vermont prior to her being elected. She cited many issues as her tipping point for wanting to run, one of which was the plan to redevelop the old armory building for the police department. She was one of the many that rejected the idea.
“Those things just led me to really need to step up and try to do something about things that are going on in the community, or I need to stop complaining,” said Ellen Burt.
She says her top priorities are focused on serving the current infrastructure and revitalizing downtown business.
“I will work with the other board members, all the town staff and the town manager to make sure that we can really be successful and do well,” said Burt.
Burt was sworn in recently and will attend her next in-person meeting this Monday.
