Danville Town Meeting

Danville -   Vermonters can look to exercise their right in the most democratic way, which is voting in local government. In a community like Danville, town meeting day is a very important day because it gives everyone in the community a oppurtunity to come together and look at what changes are being made to their town and have a voice on topics. Things like town ordinance, school budgeting, taxes, and much more. This year is extremely important for the community of Danville.

The meeting started at 10 am, and polls opened at 10 am and closed at 7 pm tonight at the school. Where they look to fill seats and make additions to the board with those expected to be announced soon, and the results will be posted. Hot Topics were about the school budgeting, the fire department, and I got to talk to people about why this day is so important to them and this community. People even brought up concerns about their taxes going up. This is why the meeting is important for people to see where their money is actually going and whether it is being well spent.

I got to talk to Bruce Melendy, and he talked about how big the oppurtiunity it is to come to a meeting. "Its a oppurtnuty to get your voice heard and get to see what's going on around town and the school."

I interviewed a Board member, Eric Bach, and he explained why he wants people to come out. "You want to come out to these events so your town officials understand what you're looking for and to have your questions answered.

Changes are always being made on days like these, and that doesn't mean it's not going to be a challenge for everyone. The one thing about these small towns is... there together on making their towns better for everyone, and that's what everyone's goal is. Like last year with all the talks about the High school closing, the people came together and put a halt to that in a huge 6:1 ratio of keeping the town school.

Voter Gregory Prier had this to say aswell about the challenges of the school. " I think we got all sorts of challenges.... small schools used to teach values, and now with new rules and laws, the government doesn't give us enough money for all of that.... These buildings are 85 years old... we need new buildings."

One thing we see with Danville is that when adversity strikes, the community will come together and try to figure out what's best and next for the people to keep them happy with their community.
